I like to visit places where decay has set in years ago. Factories that have been abandoned for decades, buildings that are about to be demolished, places that are in fact non-existent, because they lost their function ages ago. I like to go there with my camera and use the resulting photos to make new paintings in my studio.

Prora

2017

A hallway in Prora, the holiday resort that the Nazi-regime built for the German people, before the war began. Six floors high and four kilometers long. It was never finished. The Russians tried to blow up part of the building after the war. They didn´t succeed. What is left is a colossal ruin by the sea, in between pinetrees. Corridors and staircases. Concrete and bricks.
